Nova Innovation explores Bardsey Island tides

Nova Innovation has joined forces with YnNi Llyn to look at the possibility of installing a 3MW tidal array off Bardsey Island in Wales.

The application to start the process of determining the feasibility of the project, and the suitability of the site near the island, also known as Enlli, has been submitted to The Crown Estate, according to BBC.

The project, although still in its early stages, has raised concerns with the local fishermen who, as BBC reports, said it could have ‘devastating’ effects on their livelihoods.

“The project partners have agreed to work closely with the associations to ensure that the extent of fishing activity in the area is properly understood and this is firmly factored into the design of the potential project. If a tidal energy project does go ahead at Enlli, there would be significant potential benefits for the supply chain in north Wales and the local economy,” BBC has quoted a spokesperson from Nova Innovation as saying.

BBC further reports that The Crown Estate is currently in the final stage of negotiations for agreement for a lase.
