National Oilwell Varco has won a contract to supply a large submerged turret production (STP) system for Reliance Industries’ FPSO on the MJ field offshore India.

MJ is a gas condensate development sanctioned by Reliance and BP last month. The project is in 700-1100 meters water depth, with a well depth of 4200 meters below mean sea-level in a high-temperature and pressure environment.

It comprises of wells connected to a subsea production system, with tie-back to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel to process and separate liquids, and gas which will be exported to the onshore terminal through one of the existing 24-inch trunk pipelines.

National Oilwell Varco said on Monday that APL, a business unit within NOV’s Completion & Production Solutions segment, was awarded the turret production (STP) system supply deal by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. The STP will be used for the FPSO on the MJ field.

“The STP system is a unique, innovative, and flexible turret mooring system for FPSO vessels. The STP swivel, which is mounted on top of the turret buoy, transfers oil, water, gas, signals, and power from the geostationary riser system to the piping and cabling system of the freely weather-vaning production vessel,” NOV said.

National Oilwell Varco did not reveal the financial details of the contract. The MJ field is expected to begin production in mid-2022.
