Norwegian Petroleum Directorate hires Shell man as new exploration director

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), a government agency responsible for the regulation of the petroleum resources on the Norwegian continental shelf, has named a new exploration director.

The agency informed on Friday that Torgeir Stordal has been hired as the exploration director, starting Friday, September 1.

Stordal studied applied geophysics and has a Master of Science from the University of Bergen.

He has worked for Shell since 1989. His roles at Shell have included geophysicist and geologist within exploration and field development. In recent years, he has held several management positions within exploration.

During the period 2009-2013, he was the exploration manager in Norske Shell and has since held a global role within resource evaluation at Shell’s headquarters in the Netherlands.

Stordal will take over from Sissel Eriksen, who will be leaving the management team after completing her rotation. Eriksen has been the exploration director in the NPD since September 2007.
