Norway’s CCB to take in Statoil’s pair of Cat-J newbuilds

Norwegian base for supply activities to the petroleum fields, Coast Center Base (CCB), has won a contract from the Norwegian state-owned oil company Statoil for the reception and preparation of two newbuild Cat-J rigs, named Askeladden and Askepott.

The new pair of Cat-J rigs is currently being built at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea and they are expected at CCB in the second quarter of 2017.

CCB CEO, Kurt Rune Andreassen, said that an assignment like this involves some preparations in order to be able to accept this type of rigs and efforts are already being made to prepare for the first rig.

Statoil’s two new Cat-J rigs will be able to operate in water depths of 70-150 meters and drill wells up to 10,000 meters. The jack-up rigs were tailor-made for operations in harsher environments and for wells in shallow waters of the Norwegian continental shelf.

These two Cat J jack-up rigs will be used for drilling and completing wells on the Oseberg and Gullfaks fields, both located in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, and operated by Statoil.
