Norway: Talisman Energy to Use Maersk Guardian Rig on Varg A

Business & Finance

Talisman Energy Norge AS (TENAS) has been granted consent to drill three sidetrack wells on Varg A using the mobile drilling facility Mærsk Guardian.

The Varg field is located in the southern North Sea, about 230 kilometres west of Jæren, and is part of production licence 038. The field has been in production since December 1998.

The purpose of the drilling is, according to TENAS, to increase utilisation and maintain the production level from the field by drilling into new reservoir areas.

The plan is to start drilling at the turn of the year 2010/2011 and to finish in the beginning of April 2011.

Mærsk Guardian (pictured) is a jack-up drilling facility built in 1986 at the Hitachi shipyard in Japan. It is operated by Maersk Drilling Norge AS and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in November 2002.
