New region unlocked for US subsea specialist

Outlook & Strategy

Houston-based subsea energy equipment and services specialist Koil Energy Solutions, formerly known as Deep Down, has secured a contract deemed as significant that will take the company to a new region.

Koil Energy Solutions is set to deliver bend stiffener latchers (BSL), a solution designed to secure a subsea umbilical to a topside facility without the need for divers, to an undisclosed operator in a new region.

Engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and testing of the units will be performed at the company’s facility in Houston.

The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.

“This award is a recognition of our team’s endeavors in continuously developing our products enabling growth in new markets and underscoring KOIL’s strong technology position in the global subsea industry,” said Erik Wiik, Koil’s CEO.

“The locking mechanism of the BSL allows a single remote operated vehicle to engage or disengage the locking mechanism resulting in substantial savings and improved safety for the operator.”

At the end of last year, Koil won a multi-million-dollar contract for innovative flying leads with an undisclosed operator in the Gulf of Mexico. The work includes the comprehensive design, engineering, and manufacturing of several 1,000+ feet flying leads said to be tailored for a unique application.

Another multi-million dollar contract came in for the subsea specialist in May when it was appointed by a “major international energy company” to deliver engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation and testing for a technical solution for subsea safety control systems.
