N-KOM Receives Another Award This Year

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore and Marine (N-KOM) has been conferred the Ship repair/Shipyard award at the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards 2012 held on 26 November 2012 at Atlantis The Palm in Dubai.

The win comes a month after the shipyard was named ‘Shipyard of the Year’ at the Lloyd’s List Middle East & Indian Subcontinent Awards 2012 and three days after celebrating its second year anniversary.

Furthermore, the company was recently certified by the American Petroleum Institute for API-Q1 (8th ed), API-2B, API-4F, ISO/TS 29001 and ISO 9001, all of which serve to enhance the shipyards’ suite of services to the oil and gas industry.

Dedicated to providing world-class services, N-KOM has already been certified by Det Norkse Veritas (DNV) for Quality (ISO 9001), Occupational Health & Safety (OHSAS 18001) and Environmental Management (ISO 14001). The ISPS-certified facility has also been accredited by ASME (U, U2, PP and S stamps) and received the National Board ‘R’ Stamp.

Commenting on these achievements, Mr Abu Bakar Mohd Nor, CEO of N-KOM, said, “We are very honoured and encouraged that our efforts in ensuring our customers receive premium and comprehensive shipyard services have been recognized by the regional maritime industry. These awards not only mark a milestone in the company’s history but also reaffirm our growing presence in the Middle East. We would not have been able to build up our capabilities so rapidly if not for the immense support we have received from the government, Qatar Petroleum and the Port of Ras Laffan as well as our business partners, our valued customers, staff, contractors and vendors.”

Muhammad Ghannam, Chairman of N-KOM and Managing Director of Nakilat, added, “On behalf of N-KOM and the Nakilat family of companies I would like to take this opportunity to thank HE the Minister for Energy and Industry Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada for his support, without which this great achievement would not have been possible. I would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Qatar Petroleum and the management, port staff and employees of Ras Laffan Industrial City for their full and continued support.”

Ghannam said, “This award is a proud achievement for N-KOM. I also extend our sincerest thanks to the shareholders of Nakilat and to the employees of Nakilat and its joint ventures and I thank our partner Keppel for their invaluable support of N-KOM’s achievements.”

Representatives from N-KOM are currently in Dubai for the Seatrade Middle East Maritime Conference & Exhibition, held at the Dubai International Exhibition & Conference Centre from 27-29 November 2012. The annual maritime event provides an excellent platform for the shipyard to connect with members of the industry and expand its network with other ship owners and managers from the region and around the world.

To date, the shipyard which is located within the Port of Ras Laffan, has completed over a hundred projects spanning LNG and LPG carriers, tankers, container, offshore support vessels and jack up rigs. Moving forward, we will continue to enhance our competencies, leveraging on Nakilat and Keppel’s strength and expertise to offer value-added services and strengthen our place as a centre of excellence to the marine, offshore and onshore industry.
