J. Murphy & Sons Limited (Murphy) has been awarded onshore cable construction contract for the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm. The works are set to begin in early October and to be finished at the end of the summer in 2018.

Murphy will carry out the cable civil construction works with trench excavation, duct installation, reinstatement and proving of joint bay locations and connections to HDDs.

Charlie Jordan, East Anglia ONE Project Director at ScottishPower Renewables, said: “Very early on we decided that the onshore connection would be underground, and we are confident that Murphy will help to successfully deliver this important aspect of the project. Construction work is already underway at our substation in Bramford, and overall the project is progressing well. Offshore work will start next year, and the windfarm will be fully operational during 2020.”

East Anglia ONE covers an area of around 300km² and will comprise a single offshore substation inside the wind farm and two AC circuits connecting to an onshore substation at Bramford near Ipswich, adjacent to the existing National Grid substation.

The planned export cable route is approximately 85km in length offshore and 37km onshore, with a landfall at Bawdsey.

The wind farm will consist of 102 Siemens 7MW turbines, scheduled for full commissioning by the end of 2018.
