MISC takes delivery of 3rd Moss-type LNG carrier

Malaysian LNG shipper MISC, a unit of energy giant Petronas, has taken delivery of its new LNG carrier named Seri Cempaka.

The 150,200-cbm LNG carrier is the third in a series of five Moss-type Seri-C class tankers the company ordered at the South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Seri Cempaka joins her sister Moss-type newbuilds Seri Cenderawasih, and Seri Camellia on long-term charter to Petronas.

The Moss-type newbuilds are part of MISC’s long term fleet expansion programme and have been designed for a worldwide trading capability to enable them to call at all 80 LNG receiving terminals and 26 liquefaction terminals in operation worldwide.

“Its robust and superior cargo containment system allows a higher degree of flexibility for MISC to accommodate cargo loading operations at floating LNG (FLNG) units,” MISC’s statement reads.

All of the vessels will be equipped with the integrated hull structure (IHS) with four spherical tanks shielded by the continuous cover, which improves the overall structural strength of the hull, according to the LNG shipper.

The delivery of Seri Cempaka brings the current number of MISC’s LNG fleet to 27 vessels, with further two Moss-type Seri C class vessels under construction in South Korea.
