Minesto seeks sonars for Deep Green plant

Business & Finance

Swedish-based tidal energy developer, Minesto, is looking for marine mammal detection sonar system (MMDS) to be used for its Deep Green tidal power plant.

Minesto has opened a tender seeking a supplier or a consortium of suppliers that can deliver a complete MMDS system.

The system should be able to detect and track marine mammals within 60 meters from Minesto’s tidal kite, and 80 meters from the device’s foundation.

Also, the MMDS system needs to be able to log the detected object types or observation of seal activities in the observation area, and to sound an alarm.

The data logging in MMDS must be done automatically, Minesto informed.

The tender closes on July 29, and the estimated date of contract award is set for August 19, 2016.

Minesto plans to install a 500 kW tidal power plant at the Holyhead Deep site off the coast of Anglesey, Wales, in 2017.
