Minesto lands new wing

Swedish tidal energy developer, Minesto, has received an improved quarter-scale composite wing that will be used for its Deep Green technology testing.

After having undergone a 3D scan and a few test assemblies, the 3 meters long wing will be shipped from Minesto’s Gothenburg office to the team at Northern Ireland’s test site for the upcoming testing activities.

Christian Norinder, Mechanical Engineer at Minesto, said: “On this wing, we have improved the hydrodynamic shape to increase the power production performance.

“We have also optimized the design for our quarter-scale test set-up. For example, the wingtips are detachable to allow different options in the technology development.”

Minesto plans to develop a 10MW tidal array off Anglesey, Wales, with the first step being the installation of 500kW power plant planned for 2017.
