Jack-up vessel Bold Tern installed the eleventh MHI Vestas 8MW wind turbine on Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm in the German North Sea on 26 May, which was the 100th MHI Vestas V164 turbine model to be installed worldwide.

The first V164-8.0 MW turbine was installed at Maade in Denmark in 2016. Since then, the model has been installed on the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm, the Walney Extension Westthe Blyth offshore demonstrator project, and the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC), all in the UK.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm will comprise 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2019. It is the first German wind farm to feature the largest commercial turbine in the market.

MHI Vestas also has firm orders for the V164 model to be used on the 406MW Horns Rev 3 wind farm in Denmark, the 252MW Deutsche Bucht in Germany, and the 370MW Norther in Belgium.

A conditional order has been signed for the Northwester 2 project in Belgium, and the preferred supplier agreements are in place for the 860MW Triton Knoll and the 950MW Moray East projects in the UK.
