MHI delivers LNG-powered cruise ship to AIDA Cruises

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on Monday said it has delivered the AIDAprima, the first of two LNG-powered cruise ships, to AIDA Cruises of Germany. 

The vessel left MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works and set sail for Hamburg, Germany, the company said in a statement.

The AIDAprima is scheduled to commence its first regular cruise from Hamburg on April 30, including port stops in Rotterdam (Netherlands), Zeebrugge (Belgium), Le Havre (France) and Southampton (United Kingdom), Japanese shipbuilder said.

The AIDAprima will be deployed on a seven-day trips around Europe. The vessel has 18 decks, is 300 meters in overall length, and has a gross tonnage of 125,000 tons.

The vessel features a pod propulsion system and the LNG fuel supply system, MHI said.
