Masirah said on Tuesday it had awarded the FSO contract to Wings Offshore for the Mt Bull Papua, which is an Aframax tanker with a storage capacity of 750,000 barrels.

The FSO will be used to store crude oil that will be produced during the early appraisal phase of the Yumna field,  previously known as the GA South field. The field is located in Block 50 Oman, where Masirah holds a 100 percent interest.

Masirah also said that the drilling of the Yumna 1 appraisal well is planned to start in December 2019.

The company has recently awarded a contract to Foresight Offshore Drilling to use the Foresight Driller IX drilling rig for the appraisal well in Block 50.

The Foresight Driller IX is of a Letourneau Marathon 116c design built in 1983 by Jurong Singapore.

The drilling rig contract will be effective for a minimum period of 30 days and Masirah has an option to retain the rig for extended well testing and to drill additional wells.
