Maersk Aras Suffers Main Engine Failure

Business & Finance

The Panamax containership Maersk Aras has suffered a main engine failure while it was on its way to Yokohama, Japan.

The incident occurred in late February after the ship, formerly named Hanjin Indigo, departed Manzanillo, Mexico.

According to data provided by German shipping major Hapag-Lloyd, the vessel, which is deployed in the company’s AC1 service, was diverted back to Ensenada, Mexico following the incident.

Once there, an investigation of damage was initiated and the 4,662 TEU vessel underwent repairs.

Maersk Aras is currently sailing to Manzanillo using its own engine, VesselsValue data shows. It is expected to arrive at the port on March 2.
