The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for wellbore 7219/12-3 S offshore Norway.

According to the NPD’s statement on Monday, the wellbore 7219/12-3 S will be drilled from the Ocean Rig-owned Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible drilling rig. The drilling program relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 533 in the Barents Sea.

Lundin Norway is the operator of the license with an ownership interest of 35 percent and the licensees are Aker BP with 35 percent and DEA Norge with 30 percent interest.

The area in this license consists of blocks 7219/12 and 7220/10. The well will be drilled about 32 km northwest of the 7220/11-1 (Alta) discovery well in PL 609.

Production license 533 was awarded in the 20th licensing round in 2009.
