The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for wellbore 7219/12-1 A, in the Barents Sea offshore Norway.

The wellbore 7219/12-1 A will be drilled from the Ocean Rig’s semi-sub rig Leiv Eiriksson.

The drilling program for wellbore 7219/12-1 A relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production license 533.

Lundin Norway is the operator with an ownership interest of 35 per cent. The other licensees are Aker BP with 35 per cent and DEA Norge AS with 30 per cent.

The area in this license consists of the blocks 7219/12 and 7220/10. The well will be drilled about 24 kilometers south of the discovery well 7220/10-1 in production license 533.

Production license 533 was awarded on May 15, 2009 in the 20th licensing round.

Lundin drilled a wildcat well 7219/12-1 in production license 533,  in a prospect named Filicudi, in September last year.
