Lukoil boosts production at V. Filanovsky with new well

Lukoil, Russia’s largest privately-held oil company, has completed the drilling of its eighth well at the Vladimir Filanovsky field in the Caspian Sea.

Lukoil said on Thursday the new well was a horizontal producing well with a 1,560-meter long horizontal section.

According to the company, the flow at the new well reaches 2.8 thousand tonnes per day. The well drilled prior to this one was also a horizontal one and was working on the field as a water injector.

As a result, the project’s total production reached 16.5 thousand tonnes of oil per day, or 6 million tonnes on an annual basis. At present, there are six producing wells in operation at the field as well as two water injectors which are also currently producing oil.

As part of the V. Filanovsky Phase 2 development plan, a construction and individual equipment testing work at the fixed ice-resistant platform, the accommodation block platform, and the connecting bridge will be completed by the end of 2017. The company added that a drilling complex and its systems were also planned to be put into operation.

In July this year, Lukoil reached a milestone of three million tonnes of oil produced at the Vladimir Filanovsky field. The field is the largest post-Soviet discovery in Russia. Commercial operation of the field, with C1+C2 reserves, equals 129 million tonnes of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas.

The field is located in the northern Caspian Sea, 220 km away from the city of Astrakhan. Water depth in the field’s area ranges from seven to 11 meters.
