LM, Goldwind Present Longest Blade in China

LM Wind Power has announced the launch of its longest blade in China, the LM 75.1 P tailor-made blade for Goldwind’s new 6.7MW offshore wind turbine.

Goldwind’s 6.7MW platform will be the largest offshore turbine in China, and combined with the LM 75.1 P, it is designed specifically for the Wind Class I offshore areas in South China off the coasts of Fujian and Guangdong.

Xu Lei, Goldwind Delivery Centre General Manger, said: “Goldwind is committed to delivering turbines that meet the highest quality and reliability standards. With LM Wind Power blades, we know we get the quality, technology and reliable manufacturing expertise to meet the demands of Wind Class I.”

The new blade, whose prototype was produced on 12 September in the Jiangyin plant, represents the continuation of the companies’ collaboration in China.

Alexis Crama, Vice President, Offshore, LM Wind Power said: “It’s an honor to serve Goldwind’s need for a tailored offshore blade that will power thousands of homes once installed. We have over 25 years of experience with offshore blades, including a strong track record in Europe and China, and with the LM 75.1 P, we build on that expertise to deliver optimal performance on Goldwind’s powerful turbine. We look forward to supporting Goldwind’s ambitions to unlock the vast potential for developing the Chinese offshore market.”

In January, LM Wind announced the installation of its 66.9 metre blades for Goldwind’s 3MW wind turbine platform on the first prototype turbine in Zhangbei.

The company has been present in China since 2001, where it currently employs around 2,500 people and operates four blade manufacturing facilities in Tianjin, Qinhuangdao, Jiangyin and is ramping up production in Baodi.

LM Wind manufactured the world’s longest blade, an 88.4-metre blade for Adwen’s AD 8-180 wind turbine model, in June 2016.
