A Kuwaiti oil tanker sailing through the Gulf of Aden managed to fend off a pirate attack on Sunday, February 8th.

The tanker was en route to Djibouti’s Horizon Terminal port when four pirate boats approached the vessel in an attempt to board it, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported citing Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Tanker Company which owns the vessel.

The 46,500-tonne tanker Burgan was carrying 40, 303 tons of aviation fuel when the hijacking attempt took place.

The pirates were repelled with the assistance of a specialized security team on board that was joined by an Indian naval force, the agency added.

There were no damages to the tanker nor injuries to the crew reported. The vessel resumed its journey.
