KrisEnergy, an oil and gas company focused on operations in Southeast Asia, has named a new chairman of the board of directors.

The company said on Wednesday that Tan Ek Kia would be replacing Will Honeybourne, who is retiring from the board, the Transition Committee, and the Nominating Committee.

Tan Ek Kia will remain the chairman of the Nominating Committee and a member of the Audit and Transition Committees. The company added that all changes are effective immediately

KrisEnergy’s new chairman, Tan, said: “Following the successful completion of the financial restructuring in February this year, I fully understand Will’s decision to retire from KrisEnergy as we enter the next phase of the company’s evolution.

“I would like to thank Will for the excellent leadership role as we have all benefited tremendously from his deep industry background and wisdom, and I am very honored to be selected to succeed Will.”

Honeybourne, chairman of the company since 2009, added: “After serving as chairman for seven years from the company’s start up, I have decided for personal reasons to step off from the board of directors.

“I continue to have confidence in the board with Ek Kia as chairman to provide strong guidance and governance going forward.”

Tan Ek Kia joined KrisEnergy’s board as a non-executive independent director in January 2013. According to the company, he is a seasoned oil and gas professional with 40 years of experience.

He joined Shell in 1973 and worked in various capacities and countries in the company’s upstream oil and gas and petrochemical businesses including Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production and chairman of Shell Companies in North East Asia.

Tan is a director on the boards of Keppel Corp., PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, SMRT Corporation, Transocean, Dialog Systems Asia, Keppel Offshore and Marine, Star Energy Group, and Singapore LNG Corporation.
