KBR said on Monday that, under the terms of the contract, it would act as the main PMC contractor responsible for managing the egineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for Packages A & B of the Dalma Gas Development Project, Packages 1-5 of the Hail & Ghasha Development Project, Hail & Ghasha Islands Project as well as the Deep Gas Project.

Ghasha is a project for the development of previously undeveloped deposits of gas, oil and gas condensate as part of 9 shallow fields in the Arabian Gulf west of Abu Dhabi.

This work is expected to be performed over four years with an optional extension for two more years, KBR said.

The Ghasha mega-project has the potential to meet about 20 percent of the UAE’s gas demand by around the second half of the decade. In addition, more than 120,000 barrels per day of oil and high-value condensates are expected to be produced when the project is on stream.

“We deeply appreciate the tremendous amount of trust that ADNOC has placed in KBR to project-manage such a significant share of this strategic Ghasha Concession program,” said Stuart Bradie, KBR President and CEO.

Back in 2017, KBR was awarded a project management consultancy contract for management of two projects offshore Abu Dhabi. Through the contract, KBR was put in charge of managing the front end engineering and design services phase of the Dalma gas field development and the detailed design and surveys phase of the Hail & Ghasha Islands project.

When it comes to the Ghasha project development, almost a year ago, in February 2019, ADNOC awarded a contract to the UAE’s National Marine Dredging Company (NMDC) for the construction of artificial islands to develop, drill, and produce gas from the Ghasha offshore concession.

The new islands will accelerate the development of Ghasha concession mega project. The project involves building of ten new islands, two new causeways, and expanding an existing island.
