Kawasaki Delivers LNG Carrier Newbuild to K Line

Japanese shipbuilder Kawasaki Heavy Industries has delivered Bishu Maru, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, to compatriot shipping company Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line).

As explained, Bishu Maru is the second 164,700 cubic meter LNG carrier developed by the shipbuilder that can transit the Expanded Panama Canal.

Featuring four LNG tanks, the ship is 293 meters long and 48.9 meters wide.

“By increasing the size of the cargo tank and increasing the load of LNG while maintaining the hull size of conventional ships that can enter the world’s major LNG terminals, it is possible to reduce LNG transportation costs,” the shipbuilder said.

The Panama-flagged ship, which can accommodate 48 people, has a market value of USD 174.72 million, VesselsValue’s data shows.

In 2015, K Line said that the new carrier is to serve the transportation route between Australia and Japan.
