K Line Orders 210,000 dwt Bulker against JFE Steel Contract

Japan’s shipping major K Line has placed an order for a 210,000 dwt bulk carrier at compatriot shipbuilder, Japan Marine United Corporation.

To feature a length of almost 300 meters and a width of 50 meters, the 108,900 gross ton vessel is scheduled for completion in 2021.

It was ordered on the back of a deal signed with JFE Steel, under which the bulker would be deployed for iron ore and coal transportation following delivery from the yard.

K Line informed that the ship would be equipped with a scrubber, making it compliant with the upcoming SOx emission regulations set to be enforced from January 2020. The unit would also comply with the NOx emission regulations (Tier III).

Furthermore, the energy-saving ship achieves both increased cargo weight and reduced fuel consumption compared to conventional ships, and meets the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index), which is a GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emission regulation, taking into consideration the Phase 2 level applied to contracted vessels after 2020, K Line added.
