JDR, a supplier of subsea umbilicals and power cables to the offshore energy industry, has unveiled its new horizontal lay-up machine (HLM) at its Hartlepool manufacturing facility.

JDR said it has installed what it claims to be the biggest in the UK and second largest HLM in the world. The company added that the HML will enable it to provide connectivity to the oil, gas and renewables sectors.

JDR also added that the technology will provide increased manufacturing capacity and enhance solutions to operational challenges in particular for complex steel tube and power umbilicals.

David Currie, CEO of JDR, said: “The HLM will nearly double our production capacity. We’re committed to offering unrivaled technical expertise to design, test and deliver the next generation of subsea technology to the global offshore energy industry.

“The HLM will enable us to enhance our capabilities to manufacture steel, thermoplastic and hybrid umbilicals for complex, future subsea projects.”

The company said that around 70 percent of global subsea developments now require steel tube umbilicals, which link subsea product systems and remote control, power, communications and chemical supply.
