Japan’s Jan LNG imports slightly down YoY

Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) declined 0.5 percent in January as compared to the same month a year ago, according to the provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance.

Japan imported 8.26 million tonnes of LNG last month as compared to 8.30 million tonnes in January 2017.

The data shows that Japan paid about $3.9 billion for LNG imports last month, a rise of 11.5 percent on the year.

Japan’s average price of spot LNG in January was highest in more than three years. The average price of spot LNG contracted last month was $11 per million British thermal units.
