Jan De Nul’s cable-laying vessel Willem de Vlamingh has completed the installation of the export cables on the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

Under the EPCI contract, Jan De Nul installed 17 inter-array and three export cables at the 120MW offshore wind farm.

According to the company, at the beach landing, the export cables were pulled through three HDD ducts into the transition joint bays and were installed within one week.

Willem de Vlamingh is also working as a trenching support vessel for the jet-trenching of the export and inter-array cables.

Formosa 1 Phase 2 will comprise 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines installed on monopile foundations some 6km off the west coast of the Miaoli district in the Taiwan Strait.

The 120MW wind farm, an extension to the existing Formosa 1 Phase 1, is expected to be fully operational by next year.
