James Fisher charters Polar Onyx for UK job

GC Rieber Shipping has secured a cable lay charter with James Fisher Marine Services for the vessel Polar Onyx which will be used for operations at Wave Hub test site, off Cornwall.

The charter starts immediately and with options may last in excess of one month, the Norwegian shipping company informed.

As reported earlier, James Fisher Marine Services has been hired for the installation of four cable tail extensions at Wave Hub test site off Cornwall.

The subsea cable installation works using offshore construction vessel Polar Onyx at the Wave Hub offshore site, with supporting survey vessel MTS Xplorer, are scheduled to be completed from May 28 to June 13, 2016, it is stated in a notice issued by Wave Hub.

“We’re pleased to see continued utilization for Polar Onyx in today’s market and look forward to working with James Fisher for this opportunity,” Irene Basili, GC Rieber Shipping’s CEO, said.

Polar Onyx is a high capacity flexible piplay and subsea construction vessel built for harsh conditions and deep waters.

The vessel is designed to operate in the SURF/Construction/IMR market.

Polar Onyx is fitted with a 275 t vertical lay system which is capable of installing flexible pipe and umbilicals of 50 – 630 mm OD in up to 3,000 m water depth.
