Jack-Up Rig Tilts in Singapore Shipyard. 90 Workers Injured

Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced that an accident occurred today at Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd worksite.

Preliminary findings indicate that the jack-up mechanism of one of the legs of a three-legged jackup rig had failed, causing the rig to tilt to one side, the Ministry has reported.

Some 90 workers have been sent to 4 hospitals – the majority had minor injuries with one worker in a critical condition and 22 seriously injured.

“Officers from MOM’s Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate responded immediately and are on-site investigating the accident,” MOM informed.

All work has stopped at the listing rig.

Channel NewsAsia has published a photo of the tilted rig on its Facebook profile.
