ITES 2015 set for tidal energy players

International Tidal Energy Summit (ITES) 2015 has kicked-off today with pre-conference risk and reliability workshop at Hilton Tower Bridge, London.

The pre-conference workshop comprises presentations from the representatives of DNV GL, ORE Catapult and Frazer-Nash, Ricardo, and Ocean Array Systems, amongst others.

DNV GL’s workshop focuses on providing insights into its new tidal turbine standard and independent third party activities.

It will be followed by the live demonstration of ORE Catapult’s and Frazer-Nash’s open source tool for reducing tidal energy project risks.

Ocean Array Systems will bring closer a framework for understanding turbulence and its effects on tidal devices during Turbulence in Marine Environments workshop.

On November 24, the conference attendees will hear a keynote address from Fergus Ewing, Scottish Minister for Energy.

It will be followed by The Status Of The Tidal Stream Industry In The UK In 2015 – Building A Platform For Accelerated Growth session, featuring Atlantis Resources’ CEO Tim Cornelius, who will offer update on Atlantis’ MeyGen tidal array project, as well as discuss tidal energy developments from 2016 onwards.

Trevor Raggatt, Head of Small Scale and Emerging Renewables, ORED, from DECC, will seek to explain the role the government and policies play in tidal energy industry development.

The day will also feature a session on floating tidal structures, where insights from SME, Bluetec and Schottel will be offered.

The ITES 2015 awards winners will be announced at 7 pm.

The last day of the conference will, amongst others, feature sessions that will provide updates on global tidal stream projects, tidal lagoons, as well as the latest developments in tackling the risks and costs around marine operations, and European strategic roadmap for ocean energy sector.

The speakers include representatives from OpenHydro, Tidal Lagoon Power, Schottel, Mojo Maritime, the European Commission, ORE Catapult, and many more.
