Iran’s gas trade balance turns positive

Iran’s gas trade balance turned positive in 2014, according to Azizollah Ramezani, director of international affairs at National Iranian Gas Company.

He said in a statement by NIGC that Iran’s total gas exports were 9.75 billion cubic meters (bcm) while the imports rate was 6.328 bcm in 2014.

Ramezani stressed: “The figures show Iran gas export balance was 3.4 bcm last year.” He went on to say that Iran will start exporting 4 million cubic meters (MMcm/d) of its natural gas per day to Iraq by April 2015 which will increase gradually.

He also underlined Iran-Pakistan pipeline project, saying the project was supposed to have been completed by December 2014 which has not gotten off the ground due to foot-dragging of the Pakistani side.

Once completed, the IP pipeline will send 14 MMcm of Iranian natural gas to Pakistan every day.

The project’s capacity will rise to 21 MMcm/d to 30 MMcm/d after its further phase developments come online, he added.
