Iran-Iraq gas pipeline almost complete

The 48-inch gas pipeline for exporting Iran’s natural gas to Iraq has progressed by 98 percent and will be ready for use in May.

Amanollah Zare’, managing director of Nirou Gostar Industrial Group, said the method of the project’s implementation was changed during January 21-February 19, 2014, which expedited its construction.

According to him, extension of the pipeline in Iraq territory to Mansourieh power plant is complete as well.

“Some 40 percent of the plan has been executed since March 21, 2014,” he said.

The 100-kilometer pipeline stretches from Charmaleh in Ilam province to Naft-Shahr that borders Iran and Iraq.

Upon the completion of the project, Iran will initially export 4 million cubic meters of gas per day (MMcm/d) to Iraq, which can reach 40 MMcm per day in warm seasons.

Zare’ also said the construction of the Iran Gas Trunkline-6 (IGAT-6) is 76 percent complete and the project will go on stream by September 22, 2015.

He said the pipeline will branch toward Naft Shahr (Kermanshah province), Dehgolan (Kurdestan province) and Abdanan and Dehloran (Ilam province).

“Since mid-March 2014, the IGAT-6 progressed by 24 percent,” he said.

IGAT-6 starts from South Pars gas field reaching Dehgolan after crossing Khozestan, Lorestan, Ilam and Kermanshah provinces.
