Inpex Corporation named the liquefied natural gas tanker set to transport 0.9 million tons of LNG from its Ichthys LNG project in Australia to the Naoetsu LNG terminal in Japan.

The vessel, named Oceanic Breeze has been constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

It is the second LNG carrier chartered by Inpex to transport liquefied natural gas to be produced at the Ichthys LNG project, following the Pacific Breeze, that was named on September 1.

The Oceanic Breeze is owned by a joint venture between Inpex Shipping (30 percent stake) and Kawasaki Kisean Kaisha (K-Line) with a 70 percent stake.

The vessel, capable of transporting 155,300 cubic meters of LNG features MHI’s “Sayaendo” design.

The Ichthys LNG project is expected to produce up to 8.9 million tons of LNG per annum and 1.65 million tons of LPG per annum, along with approximately 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

The LNG project is a joint venture between Inpex, Total, CPC Corporation Taiwan and the Australian units of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
