IKM Subsea to provide ROV services on Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup

Norwegian oil major Statoil has awarded a services contract to the independent ROV operator IKM Subsea for work on the Johan Sverdrup development off Norway.

IKM Subsea said on Monday that the contract with Statoil on the Johan Sverdrup drilling platform in the North Sea would begin in the third quarter of 2018.

The scope of work consists of the provision of ad-hoc ROV operations to support drilling activities on the Johan Sverdrup field. The contract duration is six years with additional options.

Hans Fjellanger, business development director at IKM Subsea, said: “This contract will also benefit of the 24/7 manned onshore control center at IKM’s HQ, enabling the industry to save cost and reduce the environmental footprint, in addition to HSE risk.”

Johan Sverdrup will be developed in several phases. Phase 1 is expected to start up in late 2019 with production capacity estimated at 440,000 barrels of oil per day.

Phase 2 is expected to start up in 2022, with full field production estimated to peak at 660,000 barrels of oil per day. Peak production on Johan Sverdrup will be equivalent to 25% of all Norwegian petroleum production.

The plan for development and operation (PDO) for phase 2 will be submitted during the second half of 2018.

Statoil is the operator of the field with 40,0267% interest, with partners being Lundin Norway 22,6%, Petoro 17,36%, AkerBP 11,5733% and Maersk Oil (a company of Total) 8,44%.

It is worth reminding that Statoil recently completed the installation of the riser platform on the Johan Sverdrup field. The next step will be the installation of more than 400 km of pipelines, 200 km of power cables, the drilling platform, two jackets, and a bridge in the coming months.
