ICOE 2016 brings tidal industry to Edinburgh

Business & Finance

The International Conference on Ocean Energy (ICOE) 2016, a global marine energy event focused on the industrial development of renewable marine energy, will bring the leading industry experts from tidal and wave sector to Edinburgh next week.

The power-packed conference programme includes over 180 international speakers, hand-picked by a panel of experts from the leaders and innovators in the ocean energy industry.

ICOE 2016 is expected to addresses current global marine industry challenges, enable successful sharing of good practice and to encourage collaborative innovation – critical in supporting ocean energy industry to accelerate from concept to commercialisation.

The three-day conference will be opened by Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, in the first plenary session of the event.

The first day of the conference will, amongst others, feature Ocean Energy Forum session, a plenary pre-ICOE followed by feedback session. Sensing and monitoring will be discussed, as well as international markets of Asia and Asia Pacific, and the development of technologies and sub-components that would enable the reduction of LCOE of wave energy power.

During the second day, European support for ocean energy will be discussed, as well as the ocean energy prospects in the Americas. In addition to other sessions, the second day will look at the emerging solutions for integrating tidal arrays and producing grid-quality power for transmission systems. Also, during the Wave Technology Showcase the most promising wave energy technologies emerging from the test tanks and taking their first steps toward ocean energy demonstration will be presented.

The attendees will be able to hear from three developers who have successfully secured investment for tidal energy technology development from several different sources during ‘Custodians of the Future: Creating an Industry for Future Generations’ plenary session on the third day of the conference. The final day of ICOE 2016 will also include tidal technology showcase, session on planning and consenting procedures, and analyses of the global wave, high and low velocity tidal stream, tidal range and OTEC markets.

In addition to the conference, several side events have been organized for ICOE 2016 delegates including day trip to Orkney, tank testing workshop at FloWave tank testing facility, EIMR workshop, OCEANERA-NET joint call 2016, and joint US Department of Energy and Wave Energy Scotland workshop on wave energy technology, amongst others.

The event will take place on February 23-25, 2016, at Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) in Edinburgh, UK.
