Hywind Scotland Blades Reach Assembly Site (VIDEO)

Operations & Maintenance

The 75-metre blades for Statoil’s 30MW Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind farm arrived at the assembly site, the NorSea Group’s Stordbase AS in Norway, on Friday, 17 February.

Statoil chose Stord as the assembly site for the world’s first floating wind farm in February 2016.

The contract, valued at up to NOK 70 million, comprises the preparation and adaptation of the Stord base as the assembly base for five Siemens 6MW wind turbines.

It also includes the construction of foundations, unloading of 20 wind turbine sections and all associated components, establishment of a mooring area for substructures, indoor storage facilities and inspection of the fully installed wind turbines.

The main phase of the project started in January and will last until the end of June.

Hywind Scotland is located approximately 25 kilometres off the coast of Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, in water depths exceeding 100 metres.

The wind farm is projected to power around 20,000 average households, and the production start is expected in late 2017.

The project is owned by Statoil (75%) and Masdar (25%)
