Cargo handling down 20 per cent in Swedish ports

Swedish ports handled 38.9 million tons of cargo during the second quarter, down 20 per cent compared to Q2, 2008, and a larger decrease than during Q1 this year, reports the Swedish Institute for Transport and Communications Analysis, SIKA. About half the total cargo turnover is handled by four ports: Göteborg (9.6 million tons, down 10 per cent), Brofjorden (5 million tons, unchanged), Trelleborg (2.6 million tons, down 24 per cent) and Malmö (1.7 million tons, down 42 per cent).
