Vestas faces unions over turbine factory closure

Union leaders have stepped in to a dispute between workers and the owners of the Vestas wind turbine manufacturing plant in the UK. Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union which represents offshore workers have occupied the Vestas wind turbine plant on the Isle of Wight in protest at closure of the plant which is due to take place at the end of this week.

Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT union has also said his union is going to write to the UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Ed Miliband and Vestas company executives in Denmark regarding the planned closure of the factory which would clearly be a blow to ambitions for growth in the UK renewable energy sector.
