HPA Organizes IAPH World Ports Conference

The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) will be organizing the IAPH (International Association of Ports and Harbors) World Ports Conference – the internationally most significant conference of the port industry – in Hamburg in 2015. Hamburg will take up the role of the next host city for the first time at this year’s conference, held in Los Angeles from May 6 to 10, 2013, when the “Hamburg Night” will be staged.

Guests at the “Hamburg Night” will enjoy a real highlight: the representatives of the Hanseatic City will welcome their guests at the Space Shuttle Pavilion at the California Science Center. Seated in front of a very special “ship” – the original space shuttle Endeavour – the approximately 500 high-ranking attendants from the global port industry will celebrate the night with a festive gala dinner.

The objective of the biannual IAPH World Ports Conference, which always takes place at different port cities, is to strengthen relationships among the member ports and facilitate interaction, dialogue and problem-solving.

As is tradition, Hamburg as the next host city will organize one evening event at this year’s IAPH World Ports Conference in Los Angeles and give a first impression of what guests can expect at the conference in Hamburg in 2015.

Images of the north German harbor city and music by the Beatles, who started their career in Hamburg, are sure to make guests look forward in anticipation to visiting Hamburg.

Jens Meier, managing director of the Hamburg Port Authority said: “We are delighted to host the next IAPH World Ports Conference in Hamburg and make the port of Hamburg “the window to the world” for businesses. At the same time the exchange with other port representatives is the perfect opportunity for participants to look over the rim of their tea cup and learn from each other.
