Business & Finance

Ørsted has placed an order with EEW Special Pipe Constructions (SPC) for 165 monopiles for the 1.4GW Hornsea Project Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

The contract was signed at Ørsted’s London office on 6 July, according to EEW SPC, which will start manufacturing the monopiles in September 2019.

Heiko Mützelburg, CEO/Managing Director of EEW SPC said: “Ørsted and EEW SPC have successfully completed many projects together in the past. We thank Ørsted for the trust they have placed in us again. As with all previous projects, the same high safety standards will be embraced for this new order. It is a good feeling and makes us proud to be part of Ørsted’s vision to help create a world that runs entirely on green energy.”

EEW SPC is also delivering 174 monopiles for Ørsted’s 1.2GW Hornsea Project One, currently under construction.

The 1,386MW Hornsea Project Two, located about 89 km off the coast of Yorkshire, will comprise 165 Siemens Gamesa 8MW wind turbines, first of which are scheduled to be installed in 2021.

The project will be completed in 2022 and is set to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm, powering more than 1.3 million households.
