Heerema’s vessel Thialf has installed the offshore substation topside at the EnBW Hohe See offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

ENGIE Fabricom is in charge of the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the substation, which will connect the Hohe See wind farm to the high voltage grid via the BorWin3 converter platform.

Smulders was responsible for the design and manufacturing of the steel structure for both the substation topside and jacket foundation, including piles, which was installed earlier this month, while CG is providing the HV/MV equipment and the control and protection system.

EnBW Hohe See will comprise 71 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines located approximately 95km north of the island of Borkum.

The 497MW offshore wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the third quarter of next year.

EnBW is also developing the adjacent 112MW Albatros project, expected to enter the offshore construction phase in September.
