South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) said it was ordered to halt production at its shipbuilding division in Ulsan after a worker died at the facility.

The company said on Friday that Busan Regional Employment and Labor Office, part of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, ordered work suspension to allow for the necessary security checks to be carried out.

The shipbuilding work was halted on Thursday, January 25.

A worker lost his life after sustaining severe burns while conducting shipbuilding work, Reuters reported citing a HHI spokesperson as saying.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred on January 23, however, further details regarding what led to the incident were not revealed.

Production is expected to be resumed once the inspection determines it is safe.
