Hearings Start on Cherry Grove Dredging

Business & Finance

The final two public hearings on Cherry Grove Canals Dredging Project will be held today June 30 and July 1 at 9:00 a.m. at the City Hall.

Property owners who have provided the North Myrtle Beach City Manager with a written objection to their assessment within the Cherry Grove canals dredging project special assessment district may verbally support their written objections during the public hearings.

Although the public hearings are open to the public, only property owners within the assessment district who have provided the City Manager with written objections to their assessments may speak.

The final date and time for providing the City Manager with a written objection to an assessment is July 1 at 9:00 a.m.

A panel made up of City Council members will listen to each property owner who opts to provide verbal support for their written objection. The panel’s role is to gather information, not to make decisions.

The initial Dredging Phase 1 is expected to start in mid-November 2015 and finish by March 2016 before the sea turtles start showing up to nest. According to the current proposal, property owners will be charged each year for an estimated 10 years to pay for the dredging project estimated to cost approximately $13 million.
