Halliburton bags Eni’s deepwater bundle as Eastern Mediterranean gas buildout continues

U.S.-headquartered oilfield services player Halliburton has secured a multi-year assignment with Italy’s energy giant Eni to provide bundled well construction and completions services for an ultra-deepwater development in Cyprus, expanding its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Halliburton has won a bundled well construction and completions contract with Eni for the Cronos ultra-deepwater development in Block 6 of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, strengthening the U.S. firm’s offshore portfolio in the Eastern Mediterranean and expanding its role in the region’s strategic natural gas development.

Since the company will deliver integrated drilling, well construction, automation, and completions services for exploration and development wells, the bundled scope is expected to reduce operational interfaces, improve execution certainty, and support efficient delivery for a multi-year ultra-deepwater development. Cronos was discovered in 2022 and appraised in 2024.

Halliburton’s scope includes drilling fluids, directional drilling, LOGIX automation and remote operations, cementing, surface well testing and coiled tubing. The U.S. firm will support the efforts through its established infrastructure and regional capabilities in Cyprus, which provide logistical advantages and help ensure reliable execution throughout the campaign.

The Cronos field will be developed through four subsea wells and will partly rely on existing facilities in Egypt. Gas will be transported by subsea pipeline from Cyprus to Egypt, where it will be processed at the Zohr facilities and then liquefied at the Damietta LNG terminal before being exported to international markets, primarily Europe.

The production start-up is anticipated in 2028, with a plateau of around 500 million cubic feet per day (cf/d), equivalent to around 2.8 million tons of LNG per year (mtpa), 50% of which will be marketed by TotalEnergies, Eni’s partner in Block 6.

As it claims that the Cronos project establishes a platform for future deepwater development in the Eastern Mediterranean, Halliburton expects to apply this integrated delivery model to additional offshore campaigns as operators seek efficiency, reliable performance, and long-term value in increasingly complex offshore environments.
