Business & Finance

Haizea Wind Group (HWG) has inaugurated its wind tower manufacturing plant at the Port of Bilbao in Spain.

Apart from the towers for the offshore wind turbines, the facility will also be used for the production of monopile foundations – both monopiles and transition pieces.

According to HWG, the new factory will have an output capacity of 180 offshore towers per year and will create between 250 and 300 direct jobs at maximum activity times. Up to 100 monopiles could also be produced annually at the new plant, the Port of Bilbao said.

The facility has direct access to the 21-metres-deep ship docking and berthing area and, according to forecasts, it will use 142,500 tons of sheet metal and 7,500 tons of flanges, among other raw materials, annually.

The 48,000m² plant on Dock AZ-2 will also provide outdoor storage for finished products.
