Guinard Energies shows off Poseide tidal turbine

Business & Finance

French start-up, Guinard Energies, has demonstrated its Poseide tidal turbine in real-sea conditions off the coast of Brittany in France.

The demonstration took place as part of the marine renewable energy forum, taking place at the Port of Navalo, from April 15 until June 3, 2017.

Guinard Energies’ Poseide system, consisting of a small ducted turbine, was launched off the barge at the Gulf of Morbihan, after it started producing power.

The demonstration comes ahead of the larger 250kW turbine Guinard Energies plans to deploy in the river of Etel, southern Brittany, for testing.

The turbine will have a diameter of 4 meters, and a duct length of 6 meters, increasing the speed of the current up to 40%, according to Guinard Energies.

The installation of the system is planned for 2018.
