GTT’s hands full of tank design orders for FLNG unit and multiple LNG carriers

French technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has seen a spike in new orders, securing additional tank design jobs for liquefied natural gas (LNG) unit carriers (LNGCs) and a floating LNG (FLNG) unit.

GTT has received an order from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for the tank design of two new LNG carriers, which will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard, each with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters (cbm).

The cryogenic tanks of the vessels will be equipped with the French player’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system. The ships’ delivery is expected by the first quarter of 2029.

The firm has also secured an order from Samsung Heavy Industries‘ shipyard for the tank design of Delfin FLNG 1 to be built for the Delfin LNG project. This is expected to be the first unit to enter service in the United States, as well as the world’s largest in terms of expected production capacity with 4.4 million tonnes of LNG per year (mtpa).

As a result, GTT will design the cryogenic tanks of the unit, which will offer a total LNG storage capacity of 180,000 cbm. The eight tanks, which will be arranged in two rows, will incorporate the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

This product is perceived to be suitable for demanding maritime and offshore applications, including operations in a region exposed to hurricane conditions. Delfin FLNG 1, which will be operated off the coast of Louisiana, is scheduled for delivery in mid-2030.

In addition, GTT has won an order from Jiangnan shipyard for the tank design of four new LNG carriers on behalf of COSCO Shipping Energy, the shipowner. The delivery of the vessels is expected between the third quarter of 2029 and the third quarter of 2030.

The French player will design the cryogenic tanks of the vessels, each offering a total capacity of 175,000 cbm. These tanks will also be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

This batch of new deals comes shortly after GTT obtained the seal of approval from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for NO96 elongation criteria, enabling greater flexibility in LNG vessel design.
