GTT to Design LNG Tanks for Dynagas’ New Ships

Business & Finance

Chinese shipyard Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has hired France-based Gaztransport et Technigaz (GTT) to design liquefied natural gas tanks for two floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

The contract is related to two dual purpose vessels, which are capable of operating as efficient LNG carriers and FSRUs, which are under construction at Shanghai, China. The vessels are being built for LNG transportation company Dynagas and are scheduled to be delivered in 2021.

Under the deal, GTT will design the LNG tanks of both units, each with a capacity of 174,000 m3. The French marine engineering firm said that the membrane cryogenic containment system NO96 GW, with glass wool insulation, will be used for the LNG storage on board. Currently, 14 vessels in operation and 42 on order use this technology.

“We are pleased to once again accompany the ship-owner Dynagas in its continued development in the LNG industry and to contribute to the very first FSRUs built by our Chinese partner Hudong-Zhonghua. This new order highlights the trusting relationships GTT maintains with this shipyard, which is part of the biggest shipbuilding group in China,” Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT, said.
