IPTO has launched the tendering process for the conclusion of a framework agreement regarding submarine AC cable for the interconnection of the Dodecanese and the islands of the northeastern Aegean.

The projects concern the interconnection of Limnos, Lesvos, Samos, Chios, Rhodes, Karpathos, Kos, and Skyros with the mainland system.

The interconnection of the Aegean islands, which is a priority in IPTO’s new Ten-Year Development Plan 2024-2033, is expected to eliminate their electric isolation, increase the reliability of supply, and reduce the cost of electricity through savings in PSOs.

In terms of other recent news coming from IPTO, the Greek TSO established a special purpose company with the National Grid Saudi Electricity Company earlier this year to explore the feasibility of an electricity interconnector between Greece and Saudi Arabia.

The initiative is said to underscore the growing energy cooperation between the two countries and represent progress towards establishing a clean energy corridor stretching from Athens to Riyadh.
