GPG to hold a meeting regarding tidal lagoons

Authorities & Government

A meeting regarding tidal lagoons will be held by environmental group Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG) in Penarth, south-west from Cardiff, the group has announced.

Tidal Lagoon Power will hold a presentation regarding their plans for a tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay, and the potential of tidal lagoons as part of a transition to low carbon future.

“It is crucial that we diversify and expand our renewable and indigenous sources of electricity, this meeting provides an ideal opportunity to discuss the possibilities of a method of renewable energy generation particularly relevant to our coastal location,” GPG chair Anthony Slaughter was quoted as saying in Penarth Times.

Another tidal power station is in plan for Cardiff as well, and the developer will be Tidal Lagoon Power. The planned lagoon includes a seawall attached to the foreshore, at its western extent approximately 2 km from the entrance to Cardiff Bay, and it would have the potential generating capacity of 1800 MW up to possible 2800 MW.
